What is Melanotan-1?
Melanotan-1 (Afamelanotide, NDP-α-MSH) is a synthetic linear 13-amino acid analogue of α-MSH and a highly selective agonist of the Melanocortin-1 Receptor (MC1R). Due to Nle⁴ and D-Phe⁷ substitutions, it is more protease-resistant than native α-MSH.
What distinguishes Melanotan-1 from Melanotan-2?
MT-1 is a linear peptide with high MC1R selectivity. MT-2 is a cyclic heptapeptide and activates MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R more broadly. MT-1 is typically used for targeted MC1R studies.
